Middle School Health Esteem

"I have come to believe that a great teacher is a great artist and that there are as few as there are any other great artists. It might even be the greatest of the arts since the medium is the human mind and spirit."--John Steinbeck, written in "...like captured fireflies."

About Me

jbartlett
I'm in my sixth year as a middle school health educator in Massachusetts, and am currently the VP of Health for MAHPERD. I have a BS in Health Studies/Health Education from Springfield College (Class of 2008) and I just finished my Master's at Boston University. After school hours, I coach cross-country and track; I still train to race when I'm not hurt (which has happened often since I graduated). I grade student work with green pens, stand on desks whenever possible, and I'm completely comfortable saying "penis" and "vagina" in front of adolescents. I wear a pink tie every Friday, and you can feel free to contact me through mrbartletthealth@gmail.com or follow me on Twitter @bartletthealth.

Not all of my ideas are perfect, but maybe another teacher can take them, add their own twist, and use them in their own classrooms.

I have presented with colleagues on the following topics:
"Creative Teaching Strategies in Health Education" MAHPERD 2007 (with A. Cinelli)
"Survival Skills for The First Year Health Teacher" MAHPERD 2010 (with S. Shah-Verlest)
